ANNE C WILFORD MA LMFT brings a wealth of life experience to her work. She started out in theatre as a performing artist, writer, and teacher. This was her “bliss” (as Joseph Campbell would describe it) for 20 years. She toured in theatre companies nationwide and performed in a variety of settings. However, it was her love of improvisation and her desire to make a difference in women’s lives that led her to co-create “Leftovers…the Ups and Downs of a Compulsive Eater.” The play toured the west coast for several years before opening on Off Broadway in New York City.
In the process of creating this original theatre piece about women and weight in America, she came to understand the healing power of Expressive Arts. This creative process, along with many years of her own therapy, set the stage for her next step as a psychotherapist.
Anne has been a depth psychotherapist for 20 years. She has a practice in Berkeley, CA and works with individuals, couples, and groups. She specializes in relationship issues, binge/compulsive eating, and life transitions. She is a warm and compassionate therapist who is dedicated to the growth of her clients.
Recently, she has co-authored a Leftovers Workbook/DVD Set. The set utilizes the DVD of the show Leftovers, along with Expressive Arts techniques. This combination creates a workshop series that can be used by clinicians working with binge/compulsive eating. She has been an adjunct faculty instructor for John F. Kennedy University in Campbell and in the Title IV program sponsored by West Valley College. She is a popular instructor for Gerry Grossman Seminars where she has been teaching CEU classes and helping prepare MFT and LCSW interns to pass their Board of Behavioral Sciences licensing exams.
She is a member of:
- California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists
- Binge Eating Disorder Association
- Association for Size Diversity and Health
Anne also holds a Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Association to Advance Fat Acceptance along with the co-creators of Leftovers.
